DO YOU HAVE YOUR SHOES ON?

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 KJV
I distinctly remember putting on my shoes as I got dressed for work. I arrived at the office to begin my day—not knowing what awaited me. As my day progressed, I realized that I did not put on the right shoes. No, I am not talking about my stilettos, my sling backs or the wrong color, but my shoes of peace.
I became increasingly aware that I wore the wrong shoes as frustration mounted at the sight of “urgent” matters needing my attention. However, I absolutely knew that I did not have on the right shoes when panic rushed through me at the news that a major business deal was unraveling.
In the middle of my chaotic moment, I sensed that inner voice say, “Peace Be still!” (Mark 4:39 ESV). God’s peace helps us navigate the unexpected storms of life with a calm composure under pressure. It is then that our co-workers will know that we belong to Christ.
Lord, as you tell us in Your Word, help me to be still and slow to speak when the difficult and chaotic moments happen. Amen.
“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,” James 1:19 NIV
